MILLENNIAL: HITS OF THE 90S AND 00S
Liberty Theatre, 21- 25 Jan 2026

Picture this… smoke filled nightclubs, high-cut leotards and gaudy fluorescent colours while writhing to trip hop and boom bap beats…cast your minds back twenty, or maybe thirty years, to the dancefloor heyday of era-defining hits by the likes of the Spice Girls, Robbie Williams and Britney Spears. If these names send you into paroxysms of nostalgic glee, then you are qualified for maximum enjoyment of Fringe show, Millennial: Hits of the 90s and 00s, which opened last night at the Liberty Theatre and runs nightly until this Sunday, 25 January.

Lisa Woodbrook returns with a revamped version of her 2025 Fringe hit show adding even more songs she grew up with to the show’s already packed repertoire:

“We were so overwhelmed with how audiences responded to the premiere season that we could not wait to come back to where it all started. We have given the show a bit of a remix and have added even more epic numbers and shaken up the choreography – so there’s something different for those that are coming to see us again.”

Bursting onto the stage resplendent in blinding silver garb that would make a fire warden twitch, Lisa and her two dancers –  Ashleigh Perrie and Jesse Waghorn – commanded the stage with an exhilarating combination of energetic dance moves and powerhouse vocals launching into Robbie Williams’s 1997 mega hit Let Me Entertain You culminating in a blistering finale medley that made my head spin!

All peppered with comedic patter affectionately lampooning those born between 1981 and 1996 airing their existential-crises-fuelled grievances from over-priced iced lattes to being priced out of the housing market. More memories were conjured up with references to hotties of the era like Leonardo di Caprio, which prompted a Titanic-based routine and opportunity for a Celine Dion power ballad along with the acknowledgement that those crushes needed to be put aside as we were all too old for him now. Leo (Jack) dying in the film just might be responsible for the beginning of Millennial trauma.

Bonafide Millennials revelled in the fast-paced show attested to by the bouncing heads with many unable to contain their exuberance taking to the aisles to dance. Not to be outdone, those falling outside the target demographic were also spied getting their groove on. You really couldn’t help it; the infectious rhythms made for involuntary foot tapping that spanned the generations.

Lisa interacted with the crowd inviting a middle-aged gent to dance with her on stage, taking to the crowd to serenade a fitness instructor, and pulled up an unsuspecting audience member to dance to her rendition of Shania Twain’s anthemic, Man I Feel Like a Woman. Throughout Ashleigh, who also choreographed the show, relentlessly hurled herself at Jesse with him never missing scooping her up and throwing her around like a piece of spaghetti. That element was quasi death-defying and most impressive!

The hour-long show sped by which is a great gauge of how entertaining it was. Don your spangly bits and get along for a good ole trip down memory lane that will see you leaving with a knowing smile on your dial. Being inclusive, I checked in with departing punters, responses were all resounding “we loved it”!
