Seesaw arts magazine, is offering a series of free mentorship programs to learn arts reviewing, create writing opportunities and promote arts events around WA. In 2026, three (3) different programs will include.
WS1 +
WS2 +
WS3 +
June-July – Young Writers (18-25 yrs)
July-August – First Nations Writers
Sept-October – Regional Writers
Led by experienced mentors in writing and arts journalism, the training will include workshops and attending at least one event for a mentored review. Workshops will cover how to engage with the works and issues you cover, techniques of interpretation & fact checking, the drafting, editing, and publishing process.
Coverage will be aligned with locally produced arts events as well as touring shows to local venues. Participation is free and mentees will be paid a small fee for their published articles.
What we offer:
- Up to eight (8) mentorship positions;
- 5 Online group workshops;
- Support, advice, editing and other feedback provided during review-writing process;
- Publication of review on the Seesaw website;
- The opportunity for commissioned reviews as a Seesaw contributor.
WS1 + Young Writers will be led by renowned Australian arts journalist, author ROSALIND APPLEBY, and will run in the evenings between 19th June to 3rd July.
Deadline for WS1 + Young Writers applications is Monday 8th June.
