If you are a First Nations emerging writer based in Western Australia, and would love to improve your skills and contribute to developing arts reviewing across our State, this workshop is for you!
 
Led by Nyoongar and Greek director, actor and playwright Cezera Critti-Schnaars, Seesaw is offering emerging First Nations writers from across WA a free mentorship program to learn arts reviewing and to help create writing opportunities and promote arts events.  

 
Participation is free and mentees will be paid a small fee for their published articles.  

What we offer:

• Up to eight (8) mentorship positions;
• 5 Online group workshops;
• Support, advice, editing and other feedback provided during review-writing process;
• Publication of review on the Seesaw website;
• The opportunity for commissioned reviews as a Seesaw contributor.

Training will run 30 September – 14 October Online (up to 5 contact hours in total).

Deadline for WS2 + First Nations Writers applications is SEPT 18th.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP SERIES

Seesaw arts magazine, is offering a series of free mentorship programs to learn arts reviewing, create writing opportunities and promote arts events around WA. In 2026, three (3) different programs will include.

Led by experienced mentors in writing and arts journalism, the training will include workshops and attending at least one event for a mentored review. Workshops will cover how to engage with the works and issues you cover, techniques of interpretation & fact checking, the drafting, editing, and publishing process.

Coverage will be aligned with locally produced arts events as well as touring shows to local venues. Participation is free and mentees will be paid a small fee for their published articles.

This program is supported by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport WA.
