Thursday, 14 June at 7.00 pm (doors open at 6.30 pm)

The much-anticipated debut album from the award-winning Kate Pass Kohesia Ensemble has finally arrived. “Kohesia” will be launched at the Ellington Jazz Club with a performance by the Ensemble on Thursday, 14 June.

Since its formation in 2016, the Kate Pass Kohesia Ensemble has gone from strength to strength, receiving nominations for two WAM Song of the Year Awards (2017) for both the Jazz and World Music categories and a Music Award at Fringe World Festival (2017).

Ensemble leader, Kate Pass, first came across Persian music in 2013 when she stumbled upon a performance by a local Persian group. Captivated by the unique sounding instruments and improvisatory nature of the music, Kate immersed herself in a number of collaborations and further explorations of Persian music culminating in the formation of the Kate Pass Koheisa Ensemble.

“Kohesia” features original compositions by Kate which are characterised by unusual time structures, microtonal melodies, driving rhythmic sections and soaring improvisations to create a truly unique and absorbing listening experience.
