For nearly three decades, Will Yeoman has combined arts journalism, music criticism and curatorial work with leadership roles in the writing sector. Will worked for many years at The West Australian as literary editor, arts and travel writer and West Weekend staff writer, and continues to contribute to the paper. In parallel he has built an international reputation as a music critic, writing for Gramophone, Limelight and other classical music outlets in Australia and the UK.
As a festival director, Will has served as artistic director or curator for Perth Festival Writers Week, York Festival, York Regional Writers Weekend and the New Norcia Writers Festival, often foregrounding connections between literature, music and place. In 2023 he was appointed CEO of Writing WA, Western Australia’s peak body for writing and publishing, a role he held for about two years while remaining active as a freelance writer, critic and editor.
He is currently working closely with respected Noongar Elder, academic and health professional Dr Marion Kickett on their third anthology of First Nations stories, as well as with City of Perth Library and Mello House on events programming and facilitating.
