Luxuriate in the “heavenly length” of one of the greatest Romantic symphonies.
Schumann famously praised Schubert’s ‘Great’ C Major Symphony for its “heavenly length”, and it is justly considered Schubert’s greatest symphonic achievement – an astonishing work of driving power and lyrical beauty.
Australian pianist Jayson Gillham makes his WASO debut with Schumann’s Piano Concerto which was first performed with the composer’s wife Clara as soloist. Posterity has been far kinder to this popular work than to Schumann’s opera Genoveva, which today is mainly remembered for its superb overture.
