Hot competition for big laughs from little ones

The audience involvement in this improv game show makes it all the more enjoyable for junior reviewers Jackson Davis and Mischa Fitzpatrick.

The Little Hoo-HAA! is an improvised comedy show for kids. The show is set up in a game-show style and format with performers split up into two teams of three.

As you walk in, the audience receive voting cards to be used during the show. The audience, mostly kids, are asked questions and the answers provide the input into the show. This makes it very interactive and, overall, more engaging.

At the back, a man on the piano improvises all the music. Each team chooses a game that is generated from audience answers and perform/play it. The audience then votes by flipping their card to either side. They add up the votes and at the end whoever has the most points wins the tiny trophy.

The show is very funny, engaging and fun. Our favourite part was probably when they played a game where the contestants walk out of the room, then the audience gives them quotes from a movie, book, or song, and it is written down on paper.

The contestants return and are given the slips of paper, and then the audience chooses a topic. The actors perform around that topic and at random times they take out a slip of paper and read it.

Some of our favourite quotes from the audience included “The Spanish ambassador is a midget”, “You should go to the toilet” and “Don’t stick all your toes up your nose”.

The performances are awesome. Anyone from four to 11 years old would love The Little Hoo-HAA! and we would recommend this to our younger friends. Overall, the show is great, and the audience input adds to the improvisation and engagement.

The Little Hoo-HAA! is at Heath Ledger Theatre foyer, State Theatre Centre of WA until 23 January 2023.
