The Snow, written by Finegan Kruckemeyer and performed by Barking Gecko Theatre Company, is extremely entertaining; a hilarious and adventurous story.
When a group of brave warriors set out on a quest to find the course of the constant snowstorm isolating their town, by sling-shotting themselves over the snow drift, all sorts of unexpected events happen. The show ventures into the topics of division, the burden of high expectations from parents and the unique gifts that each person possesses.
The Snow is a mix of puppeteering and live performances. The live performers and the puppeteering are extremely good and work well together, and have us both laughing out loud. The script is very funny, and along with the acting and the use of physical performance, makes for a very entertaining story.
The voices created by the actors are hysterically funny, giving each character a unique personality, and making everybody burst into fits of laughter throughout the entire show.
The set design is vibrant and colourful with a cartoony realism look that pops against the dark background of the stage and makes the transitions between places and events easy to follow. The show uses all sorts of puppeteering, including shadow puppets for some of the scenes, which keeps it interesting.
We definitely recommend this show to our friends as it was one of the funniest shows we have ever watched. We recommend the show for people over the age of 7 years old as there is quite a lot of dialogue that could be confusing for younger audiences.
The Snow continues at the State Theatre Centre of WA until 16 July 2023.
